We Have a Well!

We received a phone call early one morning from Mr. Well Driller asking us how our driveway was coming along.  You know the driveway that had to wait for rain before it could be installed…  Well, our driveway was finally in, and Mr. Well Driller was ready to start drilling!

The kids and I quickly packed lunch, threw some chairs in the back of the car, and headed out to watch!  We were all very excited!  This was huge in our minds!  We would have a source of water on our land.

Of course, my older kids were worried we were going to miss the drilling in action since we were a little late out the door.  But, never fear! Mama knows best, right?  It is actually wise to show up a few minutes late and let Mr. Well Driller get all set up without the help of 6 kids.

We pulled in right before they finished setting up.  We quickly lined up our chairs, safely out of the way, and sat down for the entertainment.

As they drilled, we studied the rig. Each time the drill went as far as it could, Mr. Well Driller would attach a new pipe from the back of the rig to enable him to drill deeper. These pipes then measure the depth of the well. I was very anxious each time a new pipe was added. One of the biggest variables in the cost to drill a well is the depth. I wanted them to stop making it cost more!

Hitting Water!

Most of the time we sat and watched the gunk coming out of this red pipe below.

In the next picture, the gunk stopped coming out and all of a sudden looked more like water!

After hitting water, Mr. Well Driller installed the well casing and a special fitting. We then watched the water blast out as air was released from the pipe. It was so exciting to reach this point!

He said our well was easy to drill and we have great water pressure. Things worked out beautifully for us, and the well is not too deep for our pocketbook.

We are waiting for a temporary pump to be installed, so we will at least be able to use the water while waiting for our build to finish. Once our house is well underway, we will have them come back and install a permanent pump, the line to the house, and the well pressure tank. Stay tuned!
